Short Biography of Md. Ishtiaque Khan

Manager, Head of Prepaid Market Development
Md.
Ishtiaque Khan has
been working in the product and value added services area of the
telecommunications industry for almost a decade. He loves facing new challenges
at work and tries to practice and encourage thinking out of the box.
He has spent 2 years in GrameenPhone
Ltd (a Telenor company), the leading operator in Bangladesh and managed all the
prepaid product offerings and related service extensions. In 2005, he took up a
new challenge and moved to banglalink (an Orascom/Vimpelcom company), which was
the smallest operator in the industry at that time with only 60,000 customers.
He joined banglalink's Value Added
Services department, and played a pivotal part in the emergence of banglalink
in Bangladesh as the number two operator. Within a very short period of time,
banglalink acquired 1 million customers and since then, the organization has
been achieving steady growth.
As a VAS Senior executive and later
on, Assistant Manager, Ishtiaque has launched and managed several key services
like electronic topup, GPRS, customized ring back tone, fax and data, various
voice and SMS related services, etc. He was also involved with mobile email
services including blackberry, Intellisync, etc.
After successfully completing 3 years
in VAS, in 2008 he went back to his original area of work--product development.
He looked after the Medium enterprises segment in the post paid products area
for one quarter. Within this short time span, he launched international FnF
service and a new customized tariff option for the enterprise market. Both of
these services were unique and helped banglalink in the long run.
In order to fill a void left by
predecessors and to gear up the team for sustainable long term growth,
Ishtiaque was brought in as the head of prepaid product development team, which
has always been the most crucial area within marketing due to the fact that,
almost 95% of all sales come from prepaid products.
Within the next few years, Ishtiaque
and his team revolutionized the prepaid market development team which was previously infamous for being just the “pricing and implementation team”,
whereby the primary activity of the team was to do price cuts on a regular
basis. For the first time, feature based segmentation was done in the prepaid
market development sector, and thanks to the team’s effort, banglalink now has
the most comprehensive product portfolio in the industry.
He made sure all key performance areas
like acquisition, revenue enhancement and ARPU maximization, retention and
churn management was taken care of by utilizing both above the line and below
the line promotions to get the maximum output at minimum input. The available
resources were overstretched and excellent results were produced.
He has recently been promoted to
Senior Manager, and looks forward to adding more value to the organizations he
represents as a telecommunications marketer.
